New Zealand: Thành phố Arrowtown (Queenstown)

Theo chương trình khi đến thăm viếng thành phố Queenstown, vợ chồng tôi thăm viếng Arrowtown, thành phố của những người đào vàng ngày xưa.

Ở đây còn giữ nhà cửa bằng cây như thời xa xưa, đặc biệt lắm. Thời vàng son, ở đây có 7000 người sanh sống. Bây giờ chỉ còn 2000 người thôi. Bây giờ đây là một thành phố du lịch giống như trong phim cao bồi Hollywood thời “Cơn Sốt Vàng” (Gold Rush) ngày xưa ở Mỹ.

Thấy dân chúng đi ngựa, tôi liên tưởng đến thời cơn sốt vàng và cao bồi ở Mỹ.

Arrowtown là một thành phố lịch sử được bảo tồn giữ lại dáng vẻ ngày xưa. Ở đây người ta còn giữ lại một số nhà của di dân Âu Châu và Trung Quốc đã đến đây ở để đào mỏ vàng. Bảo tàng viện “Lakes District” và tiệm của Ah Lum nằm ở đây. “Ah Lum” là một người Trung Quốc đã đến đây lập nghiệp từ thời cơn sốt vàng.

Tiệm của Ah Lum được trưng bày trong khu định cư của người Hoa ngày xưa.

Cầu tiêu theo lối Tây Phuơng trước cửa tiệm Ah Lum được dành cho khách hàng người da trắng.

Arrowtown nằm cách thành phố Queenstown khoảng 20 phút lái xe. Đường Buckingham là đường chánh của thành phố này. Đây là trung tâm lịch sử của thành phố, với nhiều kiến trúc cổ xưa rất đẹp và thơ mộng.
